Program note

Sonatina for harp is composed in three movements. The first movement, Prelude, opens with a solemn introduction that continues into a larghetto section, where the first (main) theme is presented, interwoven polyphonically between the voices.

After the meno mosso, the second movement, Nocturne, follows attacca. In the lento, the first theme appears in a dialogue between the two voices, accopmanied by an ostinato pedal bass on G.

Another attacca leads into the third movement. Finale, which opens with the second theme, presented in various transformed forms. After a trill and a general pause, the first theme reappears in a kind of sonata-style development. intertwining with the second theme. A fanfare-like gesture from the introduction returns, evolving into the concluding idea, where the main theme re-emerges and brings the Sonatina to its close in fortissimo.

In essence, the Sonatina for harp is an attempt to follow the structure of a sonata movement-with exposition, development and recapitulation-while at the same time dividing the work into three movements in terms of content and character.
